With 70% of students returning to the classroom by August 25th, the search for the perfect first-day-of-school look is top of mind for kids and parents alike. That’s why we’ve tapped into our extensive proprietary data and trend insights to decode the styles shaping schoolyard wardrobes this back-to-school season. These trends reflect how today’s kids are remixing generational staples with a fresh take.

    Pops of Pastel

Pistachio is making its way from the runway to recess. With sales up nearly 10% year-over-year, this soft, green shade reflects a growing appetite for colors that feel calming yet cheerful. It marks a gentle evolution from last year’s bold lime green. We are also seeing a 12% increase in sales year over year for pink. With the much-anticipated Wicked: For Good film premiering this fall, pistachio and pink are sure to be kid-favorites well beyond the first day of school.

    Baggy Is Back

Say goodbye to skinny jeans—Gen Alpha is going big. Literally. This year, sales of wide-leg and flare jeans are up 60% and sales of cargo styles have surged. These baggier fits—often decked out with rhinestones, glitter, or appliqués—prove that the Y2K-inspired Newstalgia trend isn’t just for grown-ups. Kids are making it their own, with plenty of playful flair.

    Graphic Tees: Still the MVPs

A playground classic, the graphic tee remains a style staple among our youngest clients. This back-to-school season, expect to see Gen Alpha favoring graphics like Hello Kitty and Spiderman, with Fix requests for items featuring these beloved characters up 10% and nearly 40%, respectively.

Court Sport Cool Is In Session

Game on. Athletic-inspired style is scoring big with kids—and not just during gym class. With youth golf participation up 48% since 2019 and tenniscore trending on social media, the look is gaining serious momentum, making this trend a family affair as adults also embrace Court Sport energy. Sales of girls’ tennis dresses and skorts are up 160% year-over-year, and tennis-themed graphics are fueling a 40% spike in sports-themed styles.

    Sets Reign Supreme

Matching sets have officially gone pint-sized! We are seeing a more than 60% increase in Kids’ Fix requests for matching sets compared to the same quarter last year. These looks are comfy, confident, and easy to throw on—perfect for busy school mornings. Inspired by the monochrome style adults love but reimagined for Gen Alpha, this trend is taking off across genders and age groups alike.

TL;DR: Kidswear Is All Grown Up

From standout silhouettes to signature shades, today’s kids are making style their own. This back-to-school season, comfort and individuality are in—and Stitch Fix Kids is here to help. With options that balance ease and expression, parents can simplify the annual style reset while kids show up feeling like the best version of themselves. Plus, they can enjoy new client offers like 20% off their first Fix and no styling fee (for a limited time).
